I offer national independent industrial hemp agronomy, development consulting for both grain and biomass also for organic farmers and processors.
Midlands Seed is primarily a seed production company based in New Zealand and Tasmania. We were instrumental in helping to kick start the NZ hemp industry in the early days and continue to be an integral part of that industry, growing crops and manufacturing hemp based products.
The Tasmanian operation has been producing hemp in Tasmania for over 12 years. Our Field Consultant, based in Tasmania, is Konrad Chung. With over 10 years of experience in the production of hemp for grain, Konrad provides advise to growers on nutrition, weed and pest control, irrigation, and timing for harvest of the grain. This experience has proven to be invaluable when guiding growers through the intricacies of dealing with different varieties of hemp from Canada and Europe, and how to prepare for the coming season in Tasmania.
Apart from hemp seed, Konrad also oversees the production of several other seed crops including pasture seeds, clover, field peas, canola and cereals with growers contracted to Midlands Seed.
Midlands is a provider of Certified Hemp Seed to growers for grain production. This seed is primarily imported from Canada, France and New Zealand. We have developed extensive relationships with overseas breeders which allows us to carry out extensive trial work on new varieties, to select the best ones suited to different climates and conditions. As well as providing sowing seed, Midlands is also a wholesale supplier of bulk, food grade, grain for supply into the various food markets across Australia and overseas.
